Guest instructor workshop and community meeting
This month we have Alli and Max back up from Boston to lead a special guest instructor workshop on Saturday, October 4th. The workshop will be in the afternoon and our usual first Saturday social dance and crash course will follow. You can purchase your passes to the workshop in advance here. We’re also hosting our annual community meeting in the form of a pizza party on the final Wednesday of the month. This meeting is an important way for us to collect your feedback on what’s going well with 802 Westie Collective and what new directions we might take our community. The input that we received last year gave rise to helpful changes to our teaching, messaging, and schedule. We hope you’ll join us for pizza and share your experience! We’re asking people to pre-register in advance for $5 so we can get a head count for the pizza order. This meeting will be in lieu of classes that week–but don’t worry, we’ll still have social dancing afterward!
Finally, we’ve made some tweaks to our Level 1 classes. Instead of a progressive series of four classes that repeated monthly, we’ve pivoted to a drop-in model where we’ll teach a rotating set of a dozen moves/concepts, core foundational moves and additional moves that will vary each week. You no longer have to worry about being behind if you miss the first week of the month! This will make it easier for new dancers to get started learning West Coast Swing and the broader array of moves and concepts taught in Level 1 will provide a better bridge to Level 2.
